Dieting tip 143: waking up at 1:30am because you are hungry and grabbing one of your son's red sprinkle covered cherry pop tarts and a full glass of ice cold milk will not help you lose weight.

After a couple dozen passes against Roland last night (and my first fight of the day), I was actually having difficulties holding my shield up. It has been 4 years since my shield arm got tired why fighting. It was the damnedest thing.

Marcus is now walking a few step without aid. He does this when he forgets to hold on or is really interested in catching Zack and Reagan running around the room. When he realizes what he's doing, he drops back down to his Oldcastle crawl (he has this weird crawling motion in which he always keep one leg back and kicking the other leg forward). Our final baby is knocking on the door of toddlerhood.

Speaking of toddlers, Zachary still hasn't given up the diapers yet. Seems that when he's playing on the computer, he can't be bothered with such mundane concerns as walking to the bathroom. Right now, the $350 we paid for the Hoover steam cleaning machine (with upholstery attachments) is turning out to be one of the smartest purchases we've ever made.

My shoulder was killing me by the end of practice but it seems fine this morning. Does this mean the problem is half fixed and one more cortisone shot will fix it or am I going to have to go the surgery route? Regardless, it will have to wait until next year.

We are considering getting a new home somewhere on the border of Fairfax and Loudon. Our key indicators are cost and school performance. Course, isn't that most everyone's? Anyway, Pavla is spending a lot of time tracking down SOL scores, violet act ratings and accreditations. You'd think they'd be kind enough to put this info in one place but no, that would allow consumers to more easily make smart buying decisions. It must be nice to be an administrator/supervisor of a publicly funded monopoly that is not required to compete for clientele.

It has now been more than a month since I've smoked a cigarette. The "habit" part is mostly gone but every once in a while, the idea of being able to celebrating life with a little self-indulgent sin is really appealing. Like, having a cigar on your birthday. Maybe I can get a waiver for that night.

C-SPAN is running a series of programs on the National Conservative Student Conference sponsored by the Young America's Foundation in which various speakers explain why we are attacked, how we are attacked, and how to explain to your friends that we aren't as bad as the media has been making us out to be. You can view one of the hour long clips by going to c-span.org and clicking the link. This was particularly interesting when they got to juxtaposing cover art and headlines for weekly news mags and newspaper clippings with those considered more liberal. Another speaker (a distinguished black entrepreneur) discussed the treatment Trent Lott got versus, say, Robert Byrd when he recently made his now infamous "I know plenty of white n******" comment. That and he pointed out that when asked if he'd ever participated in a lynching said he couldn't recall if that was something he ever did. How do you not remember if you ever hung a man? Ah well, if you are interested in hearing some of the "tricks" the liberal media uses, this is a good way to spend an hour of your life.

Anyway, for them what care...
