An interview with colin-g. Yes, I'm interviewing myself :-)

What's with the Clinton bashing? Once Bush is out of office a few years it will be easier for others to criticize his leadership and his decisions too.

Actually, it was easy criticizing Clinton WHILE he was in office. Sure, time with either be hard on Bush or it will not. As you see, the liberal democrats both in office and the media are having great fun criticizing Bush now. I am not of the school that believes that Bush is "off limits" but I am against those choosing to "Monday Morning Quarterback" a war that is 6 days old AND is being misrepresented in the NY Times and Washington Post (both liberal rags). Clinton afforded a lot of great material and could cry on cue but he was a horrible at foreign relations so he is an easy target. As Dennis Miller put it, "I don't think he's (Bush) a great man but how many great men come along in life? Great men are defined by the circumstances they're presented and I think he's doing a nice job. So you know the difference between Clinton and Bush to me is that Bush somehow has managed to turn off the 'wocka-wocka' 70s porno guitar of the Clinton administration. You know? Clinton looked presidential but he acted like a kid. Bush looks like a kid but so far he acts presidential and I like that about him." That about sums it up.

Why are you still spending time defending/justifying the war when it is already underway and the actions that you think are best are occurring?

I'm only talking about things that are important to me and a large portion of the American population. Hell, the world really. Yes the war has started but just as those in the minority who oppose the war haven't and shouldn't quit speaking freely, neither should those who support this action allow our opinions to be silenced by the minority. Remember, freedom of speech is a dish served to all men equally.

Why do you want to censor celebrities? Should we tell people who are celebrities, "oh sorry, you're too famous to have a political opinion?"

I applaud the right of the individual to express their views. When a "celebrity" uses their status in an effort to make their "one voice" sound louder than it is, they break the social contract that their status offers. Chris Rock is learning that lesson now, DreamWorks has instructed Chris Rock to avoid Bush-bashing. "We are confident Chris knows this is not the appropriate time to make jokes about war and the president," said one top studio source. "We don't want to get Dixie-Chicked, or anything like that, out of the gate. We've invested tens of millions of dollars in the making of the movie and its marketing." Being a celebrity is a privileges but it also has responsibilities.

Why is it when Charlton Hesston and other conservative actors run for Congress or for President no one gets upset?

These conservatives are using their celebrity status (i.e. name recognition) to jumpstart their political careers, yes. The difference here is that they got into the game as oppose to sitting on the sidelines throwing rocks. The democracy we all love is predicated on the assumption that if you have an agenda you want to forward, you get elected or support those you want elected. Those representatives you support are the ones failing you...not those with whom you've always disagreed. In short, if they want to have their voices to be worth anymore than yours or mine, let them run for office. Otherwise, get that stuff off the stage and off our streets. That's not what I'm paying you for.

Why is it that the anti-war protests end up being violent?

I have less problem with the fact that they CAN sometimes become violent than I have with these individuals feeling the have a RIGHT to be violent, destructive, and disrupt commerce. As the saying goes, your rights stop where mine start. Destruction of private/public property in an effort to get your message across is not necessary and it's just plain mean. If you are preventing me from getting to my job or worse, blocking ambulances from getting through to save lives, you need to reevaluate your social conscience. If I can't work, I can't feed my kids. If ambulances can't get through, people die. There is a time and a place for everything. It just might not be the time and the place you want.

Got your recruiter's number on your speed dial?

Me? In uniform? Have you seen my waistline? My days as a top-of-the-line ground-pounder are over. I enjoyed my 6 years on the trail as a Drill Sergeant in the Army Reserves and hope that my time spent training our boys and girls somehow is of value to them today. However, if they need me, yes I would go. I'm guessing that they would prefer to have my support and prayers instead of my fat ass slowing them down.

Thanks for your time today Colin.

You're welcome
