For Them What Care

This may not surprise many of you but I agree with Senator Santorum that he doesn't owe anyone an apology for his comments in an interview with the Associated Press published this Monday.

This is nothing more than old fashion Republican bashing by opportunistic Political Action Committees and the Democrat leadership. If you read the whole transcript you'd see that he was talking about two things. First is whether or not there is a Constitutional "right to privacy" (something that intelligent people can disagree on). Second is the rights of the states to make and enforce laws that the people of the state want. This second view is summed up by his concluding statement, "I would put it back to where it is, the democratic process. If New York doesn't want sodomy laws, if the people of New York want abortion, fine. I mean, I wouldn't agree with it, but that's their right." (I'll bet you didn't read THAT part of his statement because it took me forever just to find someone in the media willing to publish his own unedited comments.)

Look, everyone needs to stop, breath deep, and realize that maybe he wasn't "attacking" anyone. Maybe he answering a question as honestly as he could that fit within this own code of moral behavior and, when confronted, didn't run from it. He doesn't believe in moral relativism. I do...well, as it relates to society. But that doesn't mean he can't try to convince me otherwise (or me him). His is a fine and logical position from which to stand and I applaud his ability to stand firm in the face of the heat.

In short, he was making a "slippery slope" argument where legalizing "A" may also make it so that "B" is also now legal. Whether or not that is going to happen is no longer in our (the voter's) hands. Its in the Supreme Courts...and that's the problem. Gays that live in states where sodomy is illegal can move to another state. People who live in a country where men could have sex with dogs and priests could have sex with 18 year old boys would have to move to another country.

Be careful what you wish for when it comes to Constitutional protection as it is a double edged sword. How many of you HATE the second amendment?
